This full-day workshop will introduce basic tools and techniques unique to cold wax medium (CWM). No experience (with art and/or cold wax) is required, but is also welcome.
You will learn the basics of CWM materials, drying time, tools, substrates, safe use and clean-up. We will explore techniques of layering textures and patterns to create non-objective compositions. We will dive in playfully without expectations.
In the morning, I will discuss setting up your work space, we will tape grids and prepare our surfaces, learn about tools and mixing cold wax medium with oil paint, and apply a layer of transparent paint. I will demo: mark-making and painting "wet-in-wet" on paper; creating an abstract composition (i.e. landscape); creating texture and shapes.
After a lunch break (also giving the wax some time to dry between layers), participants will explore the demonstrated techniques.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Maximum of 6 students.
